How To Declutter And Feel Better

Clutter can make you feel stressed and it is difficult to live with. It makes you feel disorganised and it can really get you down. It also gets expensive because you lose so many things around your home and you cannot find what you need. So you end up buying more stuff, which contributes to more clutter. But did you know that having a good declutter can actually save you money? And in this time and climate, you need to save money everywhere you can. So here we are to help you declutter and tell you where you can save money.

How To Start The Declutter

It can be so overwhelming when you start to declutter your home. There is so much to do and you just cannot see a place to start. But my number one tip is to start small. Do not go in and think that you can climb this cluttered mountain because the task is just too big. Start small and all the small jobs eventually turn into a whole room that has been decluttered. If you have stuff stashed in boxes or bags, you could start with them. Go through and empty them, sorting as you go.

As you declutter, you need to sort things into piles. So you are going to have a pile for the bin, a pile for keeping and a pile for giving away.

keep and donate piles

The Rubbish pile – make sure you have bin bags and plenty of them. You will need a bin bag for general rubbish and one for recycling. Because as you sort out, you are going to get so much rubbish in the bin. Recycling helps to spread the rubbish between your outside bins. Throw away things that are dirty, broken or no good to anyone. It isn’t worth keeping broken things, because you know that you will not get around to fixing them.

The Keeping Pile – This is the pile of stuff you are keeping. It isn’t really a pile because you are going to put the things away as you find them. Make sure it all goes to its proper home and that you are going to use it again. If you haven’t used something for a long time, it is likely that you won’t use it again soon. So put it in one of the other piles.

The Giving Away Pile – this is the pile that is going to be leaving your house. You will need to be strong if you have become attached to your possessions. There are a few options for what you will do with all of your stuff. You can sell it through Vinted, eBay or Facebook Marketplace. This will earn you a few quid. But it can be a hassle as people try to get something for nothing. In the summer months, you can also try car boot sales to sell your things.

Give it away to charity shops, friends and on Facebook Marketplace. I find this easier because there are no expectations and people will take anything for free. Giving it to a charity shop does help a greater cause, but charity shops do bin a lot of donations.

Benefits Of Decluttering

You will find things that you forgot you had. It can almost feel like shopping but for free. When you have a house that is cluttered, you cannot find a pen. But as you sort out and declutter, you can find 100 different pens. You never know what you are going to find, so make sure you organise it straight away. Get a big pot and put those pens away immediately. Putting all of these things away in their proper place means you will not be buying more stuff in the future. Can you imagine how much this will save you?

As you declutter, your home will feel more organised and you will like living in a less cluttered house. So decluttering actually helps your house to become more of a home. You will buy less stuff in the future because you will think about how much you love your new clutter-free home. This is going to save you money in the long run. It is going to take a while to declutter your home, so you won’t want to do it again in the near future.

When you have decluttered, you might realise that you do not need to live in a huge home as you do. So it could be time to downsize. If you own your home, this is going to free some money to do something else too. It could also free up some money to make your future financially secure.

Decluttering is good for your mind, body and soul. It is also good for your purse. If you are hoping to save money and be more responsible with what you have, take these ideas and tips into consideration. Decluttering can and does save you money in a big way as well as make you feel happier.
