How To Reduce Bathroom Renovation Costs By 50% Or More

Reducing bathroom renovation costs might seem like a near impossibility. But it turns out that it’s easier to do than you might think.

Yes, it takes money (as almost everything does). However, you can cut costs a lot, sometimes by 50% or more, using simple methods.

But how?

That’s what we look at in this post.

Keep The Plumbing Where It Is

Start by committing to the idea that you will keep the plumbing where it is. While you might want to move it around, that’s not always such a good idea because of the added costs.

Therefore, to really save money, plan your new interior around the existing layout. Try to avoid moving the sink or the bath as this could really add to the cost, especially if it is unnecessary.

Do The Demolition Yourself

You can also try to do the demo yourself. Ripping out old tiles and bathrooms is a great way to get work done without it costing you anything (except your time).

You don’t need any fancy equipment either. Just a simple hammer, wrench, and toolkit are often enough.

Install A Framed Mirror

Another way to cut costs is to install a framed mirror instead of a medicine cabinet. These are often cheap and stylish, allowing you to get more for your money.

Framed mirrors give your bathroom a high-end look without the upfront cost. While they aren’t free, they can cut your expenses substantially, sometimes by as much as 50%.

Opt For A Shower Curtain

While it might not be popular, you could also opt for a shower curtain instead of a framed or tempered glass door. Again, these are just a few pounds and are easy to replace.

Many top supermarkets offer these in their homeware sections. They clip to your existing rail, meaning you don’t have to replace the entire installation unless you want to.

Buy Ex-Display

Many people are also buying ex display bathrooms online. Again, these are a fraction of the cost of making a similar purchase brand-new, allowing you to make your money go further. Discounts of up to 50% or more aren’t rare.

Damage is sometimes a concern, but vendors are usually honest and will tell you if there are any problems that you might need to fix, like scuffs or stains. However, these will usually be minor since most showrooms aren’t active kitchens.

DIY Some Parts Of The Redesign

Another way to lower costs is to redesign parts of the bathroom yourself. For example, you might learn how to do tiling properly, or remove the fittings yourself and put them in a skip, ready for the rest of the renovation.

Refinish Instead

Finally, if you really want to save money, you can refinish instead of fitting new fittings from scratch. This option simply means giving your bathroom a facelift.

For example, you might give it a fresh coat of paint or resurface elements to make the room look new. You could also try adding a new statement piece while keeping everything else where it is.
