Hosting Easter Sunday This Year
Collaborative Post
With restrictions easing on Monday, you might have been thinking about Easter Sunday this year and how you will be celebrating it. We may not be able to host inside our homes but we are able to meet in groups of six or as two households. This includes meeting in private gardens which means, if the weather is nice, you can have people round to celebrate.
So what things do you need to consider when hosting Easter Sunday this year?
The Food
The most traditional meat eaten at Easter has to be lamb. It has significance in both Christianity and Paganism (because of a Spring equinox celebration). It symbolises the self sacrifice of Jesus and is a very tasty addition to Easter Sunday. Make sure to find a delicious recipe to follow and ensure you have a decent knife set for carving and cutting both the lamb – and the ham if you choose to cook that as well. It is an incredibly popular meat in US at Easter and has become increasingly popular here. Sabatier Knives UK have a wonderful selection to choose from.
Of course you cannot celebrate Easter Sunday this year without some of the other traditional Easter fare. Hot cross buns are traditionally served on Good Friday but who is to say you can’t enjoy them on Easter Sunday too? Simnel cake and Easter biscuits are also popular choices too. Don’t forget to check out some of the fabulous Easter recipes we’ve shared on the site. Plan for all dietary choices ad you will be all sorted.

The Decor
You can go all out or keep it understated. Some people adore celebrating Easter and pick up pieces in the supermarket or wholesalers whilst others choose to do it themselves. There’s plenty of Easter decoration ideas online but common decor ideas are of course eggs, bunnies and Spring flowers. A simple vase of Spring flowers on the table can make all the difference.
Plan Some Fun Activities
Obviously there is still a restriction on numbers as such but if the two households have a number of children, then an Easter egg hunt is a wonderful idea that will be so much fun for them. Just pop a number of different sized eggs around your garden and send them off with buckets to find as many as they can. You can use toy eggs or chocolate eggs for this.
Another fun activity that you can do is an egg and spoon race. Keeping in with the theme of Easter, it is an activity that has stood the test of time. Both adults and children alike can take part in this and it is a real laugh. They can even do some fun Easter crafts.
Head On Out
Now that two households can mix, it might be worth seeing what is going on in your local area. You could do this before your tasty Easter Sunday lunch or afterwards to walk off some of those calories.
Whilst there won’t be as much as other years, you might find something cute or fun to look at or do. My home village is doing a socially distanced Easter egg hunt for the kids and other areas may be doing something similar.
If you are religious, your local church may be doing some services. Whilst my local church isn’t doing services inside the church, they are joining together socially distanced in the churchyard or you can check in online for their two services – Holy Communion and an all age Easter service.
These are all important things to consider for hosting a wonderful Easter Sunday and I hope you have a good one!
I don’t know if we’ll do much for easter apart from eating loads of chocolate. I’m looking forward to a long weekend though x
I am really looking forward to having lamb at Easter. I hope my mother-in-law will invite us over!
